A gripping, must-read book!

I've read many financial books, but what sets this one apart is Ken Weber's succinct, likable voice. He is your tour guide, and he expertly explains all the mistakes people make with their money. Then, with a perfect dramatic build, he spends the last portion of the book explaining what we SHOULD do with our money. After spending many pages explaining all the traps, the release at the end feels great, it feels right, and we trust in Ken's suggestions.

This feels like a life's work...because it is. It could only have been written by someone who spent a lifetime advising people, watching some make mistakes and helping others avoid them. He knows the difference between fad investments and the real thing, because his horizon has been long enough to see the difference. I will suggest this book to everyone I know, and I will adopt its foundational principles into my life. Absolutely terrific.

or trying to make that one great stock pick

The author does a superb job at directing the "new" and "seasoned" investor away from common errors and misconceptions that most have toward portfolio investing. The tone and philosophy of the book is very honest and refreshing, it is clear in every way that this book is meant to help guide people in both thought and action toward a very realistic approach to a long term investment strategy.
The arguments presented toward enjoying life more and worrying less was very reassuring, I agree with the futility of "watching" the market on a daily basis. This habitual ritual leads to very small rewards, and i've witnessed many people fall into this trap, the author excellently argues the worthlessness of timing the market, or trying to make that one great stock pick. Many of these points are nicely supplemented with anecdotes that are simultaneously amusing and helpful.
I was very intrigued by no load mutual funds, but surprised with the little confidence emphasized toward index funds.. I would be interested in a follow up to this book based solely on chapter six….The Path Ahead.
If you are looking for a book about fantasy, or visions of investing grandeur go watch Wolf of Wall Street… Then go and read this book, this is a definite must read for all people if you want grow your portfolio.

If you're buying to give as a gift, get another for yourself (because you'll find yourself wanting to keep your copy!)

I originally purchased this book as a graduation present of sorts for my son, but found myself drawn to read the book before I gave it away. Mr. Weber writes in a voice that's easy to read, even when covering complex financial topics. He points out the mistakes that even smart people make when it comes to investments. Let's face it - we can all fall into those traps. I would highly recommend the book as a great gift for your grad (and a great read!)

This series is invaluable for anyone looking to get into investment banking.

Investment banking and private equity are not as mysterious or beyond grasp as they may be portrayed, however, without Paul's series of books I would still be in the dark. For anyone looking for a practical and applicable understanding of how to develop one's skills as an analyst, or hone their comprehension from an associate's point of view, these books are invaluable. The author, Paul, is a wealth of first-hand knowledge, and is a true professor when it comes to helping his readers reach that "aha!" moment.

I purchased the books because I am a career changer, and the understanding that I've received from Paul's guidance has helped me become a capable and formidable analyst when compared to anyone on the Street. Furthermore, the information provided in the books is great to have on hand as a reference; for instance, during a merger, if one would need to find the average percentage of goodwill to be allocated to amortizable intangible assets in a particular industry... it's right there.

This new book by Paul P. of NYSF is an excellent addition to his two other books in his series. I wrote a review for his LBO book and also am writing a review for his new M&A book. Everything that I mentioned in the LBO book review also applies here. I think the really excellent thing about Paul's books is that they are very in-depth treatment on one particular type of analysis. Other books on valuation will just contain one chapter on LBO, one on M&A, etc. However, Paul book series are compartmentalized and standalone in-depth treatment that as a collective series will make you truly exceptional in both the sell side (i.e. IBD advisory) or the buyside. Anyone with experience in this field will know that just having this skill set and know how is a very lucrative skill set to have. If you truly want to be the next Bob Greenhill, Felix Rohytan, Ira Harris of M&A and you truly master everything in this book (as well as his other two books) then you will truly be in a position to generate real wealth for yourself as well as your clients and others. These are niche books that may not be intended to be for a general audience (such as a New York Times best seller) but me personally I would way rather spend the rest of my life mastering these types of books so that I can master the "wealth creation process" of business in general (no disrespect to New York Time best sellers which are also wonderful books; Paul's books and popular books for the masses are two distinctly different product offerings in my humble opinion meant to serve two different purposes).

A great resource!

This book is fantastic! I am a career changer and it definitely reinforced - as well as filled in the gaps - where my b-school courses were lacking. For instance, both this book AND Paul's "Financial Modeling and Valuation" book thoroughly explain how to actually go about doing research in order to optimize the inputs in your financial model. (This part of the modeling process was never really taught in class). Along with the included case study, this book carefully explains each step of the merger modeling process so that an absolute Excel novice can understand and feel confident about the process. I highly recommend it to anyone who is considering going to business school and specializing in finance, as it will give you a edge in class. As in my case, it was a fantastic refresher and supplement which has allowed me to take on valuation projects of my own in order to build my resume.

A somewhat standard trade

To get a basic idea of a trading style with Renko this is fine but the key to really having a profitable trading system is to avoid some of the 15 point losses. The bar does not show current price so if you wait for the second bar to close the actual price can be a few pips worse in a fast moving market.
The pup size box should be considered for this problem. A suggestion: search for the minimum pip box with the fewest max loss you will tolerate--the 2 box bar in this system.
I trade Renko systems and the box setup is key to overall profit with this kind of trading style.

Laid out trade plan. A wise investment to invest in this book. It walks you through every aspect of what a trade should encompass.
Most new traders always assume the end goal is about money. It's only a tool as the author points out. Anyone struggling with trading should read this book. Even if you're not struggling, take the 10-15 mins it takes to read it, It'll be the best few dollars you'll spend.

LET THE INVASION BEGIN!

I opened WHEN HEAVEN INVADES YOUR FINANCES (book 1) on Monday morning and had to finish it by the end of the day! It contained so many wonderful insights. Jim Baker's writing style is personal and compelling. Without becoming achedemic, Jim simplifies and clarifies the kind of questions often asked concerning the Bible, finances and stewardship.

I found myself laughing out loud as Jim Baker shared simple illustrations that made me ask myself, "How'd I miss that all these years?" And when he started "killing sacred cows" in the latter half of the book I found myself smiling and nodding my head in agreement.

So many books on Biblical finances feel like clubs designed to beat the reader into submission. But, HOW HEAVEN INVADES YOUR FINANCES feels like a key that releases the shackles and sets the captive free! You finances will never be the same. LET THE INVASION BEGIN!!

Each chapter holds information and key learning opportunities no matter what your situation in life. Let The Invasion Begin!

I've never felt so passionate about writing a review for a book. I've known Pastor Jim and Mary Baker for about a year and half now and my life has never been the same. The healing, the training, the freedom I have found on my road to healing has been tremendous. Recently, the Lord told me it was time to deal with some heart issues concerning the spirit of Mammon and finances. No sooner did the Lord speak this to me, but Jim's book came out. The title alone had me anxious to get my hands on it. This book answered every question I ever had about God concerning finances/prosperity.

What I loved most were the "Inner Action" steps at the end of every chapter. Not only was this book easy to read, process, and sow into my spirit, it had steps for me to follow to find deliverance where I needed it most. The content within this book, along with the "Inner Action" activities at the end of each chapter, exposed lies I had been believing; lies that kept me from walking in the truth of God's Word for my life concerning prosperity/finances. Never have I gone through a book and experienced so much deliverance as I went. This is how it should be!

This book gave me an even deeper revelation of God's love for me and all that is mine as a daughter of the King. As God continues to transform my life, I continue to find this one thing to be true and it's written in this book, "Your impression of who God is determines how you receive from Him. Wrong knowledge produces wrong results. God will not be anything to me that I don't first believe Him to be. This is faith; seeing things from God's perspective. God is who He is regardless of what you think, but your impression of God determines what you experience from God." This is just as true concerning prosperity and your finances.

It's time for a mind-shift! As Daddy's children, it's time we developed a healthy, accurate, Kingdom perspective on God's heart concerning prosperity. It's time to live like the King's kids we are! God wants to bless you and the world needs you!

Since I am not in a management role, I've had the relative liberty of being able to read these more for understanding than for guidance. They can even be fun now and again, but they are generally weighty volumes, thick with references and even a touch repetitive in layout.

This book isn't another one of those. Strictly speaking, it isn't about business at all, except insofar as business requires human relationships and communication skills.

This is more of an FYI memo than a manifesto. It outlines a particular challenge and offers tools so that the reader can find a possible solution for themselves rather than presenting a given solution and then bending all paths to reach that goal. It is very easy to read, written with clear and accessible language, and contains a number of helpful anecdotes. There's a lot of good food for thought in this: if I tried to pull all the neat quotes and bits of wisdom to include them here, this would be very long indeed!

(I had the enjoyable experience of meeting the author when she taught a class at my workplace that touched on several of the themes in her book. I'm still processing some of the ideas she presented then, months before her book was finished.)

Inspiring and insightful. This book provides a path of clarity through workplace conflict with grace and focus. Edree Allen-Agbro helps to reframe the daily trudge of just surviving the day toward a vision that encourages personal accountability and integrity. This book is both practical and wise.
