About the Author
Bob Browne is a native of Oklahoma. He started his career as a teenager loading trucks and sorting bottles and finished it by building Great Plains Coca-Cola Bottling Company into an industry model. Browne is a graduate of Williams College and received his MBA from Columbia. He lives in Oklahoma City with his wife, Karen.

A Journey Worth Taking!

Bob Browne effectively captures the essence of Great Plains Coca-Cola in Sys-Tao. He details both his family history in the business and that of Great Plains Coca-Cola. His description of the Great Plains operating philosophy before and after Sys-Tao is thought provoking.
Prior to joining Great Plains Coca-Cola, I worked for nineteen years for bottlers in the Coke and Pepsi systems. As described in Sys-Tao, I was introduced to an entire new way of thinking that emphasized "common sense".
As Bob states in Sys-Tao, it is hard to break old habits.
After gaining an understanding of how the concepts of Continuous Replenishment, Processing New Information and Things Gone Wrong (TGW's)
fit together, I looked at the business from a different perspective.
The continuous improvement of the Great Plains process focuses on the Customer, both internal and external. This constancy of purpose has created a strong collaborative working environment.
In addition to significant Thruput results, the Great Plains operating process has positively impacted sales and market share.
Bob Browne's Sys-Tao is a journey that explores an alternative and successful business philosophy.
It is a journey worth taking.

striving to always become better; never stuck in the “what is

If I were asked to describe this book in a single word or statement I could not do it. I think each reader will have a unique experience as a result of reading it. One reader might define it as a management/leadership book; another reader might describe it as a book of philosophy, still others might define it as an operations management, quality management, or lean manufacturing book. I believe an argument could be made that it is all of these things and much more. In Sys-Tao, Mr. Browne presents his unique experience of leading the transition of a world class organization from a traditional organization to an organization the values its customers’, striving to always become better; never stuck in the “what is,” but always pursuing “what could be”. While much of what Mr. Browne presents is common sense it challenges many of the precepts of traditional business practices that many of us have experienced in our careers; as such, as you read you will be forced to reevaluate your own paradigm. If you are lucky, you will experience what Mr. Browne calls “blinding flashes of the obvious” that will cause you to view your organization and the possibilities in a whole new way. Best wishes.

This was and still is the greatest experiences of my life

This was and still is the greatest experiences of my life, I had the pleasure living and helping create this great new culture at Great Plains with Bob Browne. This book illustrates how you take a process based philosophy and apply it to your company and create a great customer focused company that's has great unmatched customer service. It also demonstrates how you can take fear out of a company with philosophies like success is not finial and failure is not fatal, which leads into how you take What Is and move to What Could Be. As we went through this journey we learned how to create and manage great new processes vs using up people while eliminating waste and creating capability while at the same time holding our cost flat to down. I believe that Great Plains Systems and Process are viewed is the best in North Americas beverage Industry.
