The Broke and Beautiful Life finds the perfect balance throughout

Stefanie O'Connell introduces The Broke and Beautiful Life as her own search for balance between securing her future and living a life that doesn't feel stifled.

Ms. O'Connell's story strikes a pitch-perfect chord of practical, easy-to-follow advice on living a beautiful life, frugally, while recounting her personal journey through the very unique perspective -- especially among finance authors -- of an actor working to make ends-meet in New York.

The advice is well-researched enough to feel universal, and the stories of chasing her goals are well-written enough that before long, you find yourself cheering for her.

While so much other writing on the topic either spoon feeds solutions to readers or assumes too much about the reader, Ms. O'Connell's book provides something we all could use -- the inspiration to get started and to keep moving.

After all, who wouldn't want their life to feel a little more beautiful?

Best Practical & Inspirational Money Primer I've Ever Read!

This book tops my list now as the personal finance book I plan to give to friends and family and anyone who needs to learn how to manage their money better. Stefanie O'Connell is one of the few writers who can make topics like budgeting and retirement planning easy to understand, relatable and even entertaining at times. It's easy to tell people to follow their passion, but Stefanie provides the necessary practical advice that needs to follow that statement yet rarely does. Unlike lots of other books offering empty platitudes or just a lot of stories, Stefanie follows up with chapters chock full of actionable tips to help the readers take tangible steps towards financial independence. I can't think of a better gift to give a high school or college grad - even as someone pretty secure in how their handling their finances, I found some helpful tips and really found reading The Broke and Beautiful Life was worth my time.

SUPER! While "The Broke and Beautiful Life" is meant to be targeted at Millenials to help young adults manage through their early years on their own, I beg to differ! After reading this, I firmly believe the book is ideal for ANYONE and EVERYONE, even for someone past the Millenial years. These days, I know very few people who do not sometimes feel "broke" or do not want to be "beautiful". So, consider this book a gift to yourself (or others) to help you navigate the challenging financial waters on your way to the "beautiful life".

Stefanie O'Connell masterfully blends sound, well researched financial advice with an open and candid voice rarely heard. Her genuine, pragmatic approach and willingness to expose her dreams and fears make this book very engaging. Stefanie demonstrates an uncanny ability to speak about a broad array of financial topics which can be complicated and intimidating in a friendly, direct and non-judgmental way. I particularly appreciate that she does not preach, she suggests; she does not criticize, she shares; she does not talk down from on high, she speaks like one of us on the ground.

So, I recommend you check out this book immediately -- it's a great read and more importantly it's a great deal for today and great advice for the long term.

Engaging and invaluable. Exactly what I needed, this book is now one of my top 3 investing books.

This book provides a plan for retirement that is easy to understand and implement, and can be adjusted according to the investor’s age, income, and risk tolerance. I am an amateur investor--a self-employed single parent who also cares for my elderly father. My dad insists that I manage his retirement money, and has been overly aggressive in the past, to his detriment. I have read many books on investing, but this book is exactly what I need, and has quickly moved into my top three investing books.

The author thoughtfully explains and walks through the different aspects of planning for retirement that must be considered, demonstrating each step, and then showing how to put it all together. Topics covered include (not necessarily in this order):
• How to diversify and why it’s important
• Figuring out your risk tolerance
• Asset classes that should be included in one’s portfolio, and how to determine the appropriate balance
• Reducing volatility
• Tax advice
• Protecting your portfolio from inflation
• Determining what your withdrawal rate will need to be in retirement, and therefore, how much you need to be contributing now.
• How to use bonds, ETFs and index funds
• Specific and detailed advice on knowing when you need to just HOLD; why it’s important, and how to handle the psychological challenges of doing nothing when things get crazy
• Rebalancing
• Portfolio maintenance in retirement

These are the main topics covered, but Minnucci provides a lot of historical information in his explanations that demonstrate the thoughtful research and time that must have gone into the writing of the book. His sense of humor is engaging, and he doesn’t allow us to take ourselves too seriously.

I’ve only read the book once so far, but it has already become one of my most valuable reference books. I recommend it highly and will be buying copies for my kids.

many uncommon insights and very fact driven book

I'm surprised that this book doesn't have more reviews. You will find plenty of books that tell you to invest in a diversified portfolio but this book actually looks at the historical data and explains why it works. There is plenty of actionable information in this book.

There are so many insights in this book that are counter intuitive e.g. combining two volatile investments will often yield a better return than either one of them. Buy the book to find out how!

If you don’t want to go broke during retirement you will want to read this book and heed its advice. This is a sober, lively, well-researched book offering spot-on advice on how to avoid the pitfalls that stock market volatility and inflation can wreak on your retirement portfolio. It offers a clear-cut and detailed step by step plan on how to structure your portfolio to insure that you have enough money to survive retirement. If nothing else, its serious analysis clearly points out what can go wrong to jeopardize your retirement savings. It is a real eye-opener and will at minimum make you examine your portfolio with a fresh eye.

Efficient on efficiency!

There are a lot of books out there about efficiency and most of them count hundreds of pages. How efficient is it to write a book of hundreds of pages about efficiency? It's not.

This book on the other hand is so efficient, it only takes 20 minutes to read. It's a must read book and very efficient.

Outstanding thoughtful visionary fact filled analysis of the coming tsunami of change about to engulf the existing auto industry. And I'd you drive a car or truck for a job and are still 10 years (or more) from retirement read this book and then start planning your next career move

A useful, but incomplete and biased view of the future

First, before getting into any criticism, this book does a good job of covering the potential inherent in the shifts to automated vehicles and new vehicle propulsion systems. Mr. Neckermann identifies a large range of possible directions that may impact the way we drive.

The problem with the book is that it does not look particularly closely at the challenges inherent in this transformation. The author provides a biased view, going so far as to suggest that "automotive manufacturing is becoming as redundant as the horseshoe maker". The book includes long sections running through hosts of initiatives, prototypes, and start-ups, but the fact is that technology is the least concern in this transformation. We have had electric, hydrogen, and automated driving technologies for decades.

The challenge is how to deploy these technologies in a chaotic, unpredictable environment dominated by human beings. Comparisons with air travel are worse than useless; they are misleading. Cars do not operate in controlled spaces occupied by perhaps a dozen other craft, each operated by pairs of highly trained pilots, and maintained continuously by professional ground crews. Road traffic is an intensely human, social environment where the rules of the road often matter less than anticipating what other road users may do based on experience (see Traffic for an excellent analysis). Given that the average age of cars in use is more than 11 years, software-driven vehicles will have to co-exist for decades with hundreds of millions of human-driven machines and they will still have to protect occupants (and other road users) in the event of a collision. Automated cars will have to do massively better than Apple computers or Microsoft operating systems because they cannot be allowed to confuse drivers, freeze up, or become corrupted when lives are at stake, and they'll have to operate correctly for 10-20 years, not 2-3.

I agree that we will one day reach zero emissions, dramatically reduce accidents, and likely see big changes in how vehicles are owned and used, but this is at least a 50, not a five, year transition and no one today can really predict with much confidence how this shift will ultimately play out.

Lukas has a cogent and very insightful analysis of the coming age of autonomous vehicles. He explains that the gains to be made for all of us as the world moves toward robotically operated vehicles are multifold. We can expect the elimination of car accidents - and the horrible human and economic costs associated with them. Robotic cars will also eliminate emissions that choke our cities - since they will be highly-efficient, battery-operated cars. Finally, since they will be very rapidly summonable, there will be little need for the vast majority of consumers to bear the cost and hassle of automobile ownership. Pick the book up and be inspired looking forward to the future that awaits us all!

"Millionaire Marketing" is Like Having An Entire Marketing Department At My Fingertips

I work in the medical industry. Having Debra Jason's book is like having an entire marketing department at my fingertips whenever I need them!

I first met Debra at her talk about LinkedIn and I learned more in the two hours listening to her than I had learned trying to learn LinkedIn on my own for the 6 months leading up to her talk. Since then, with her priceless suggestions in her "Millionaire Marketing on a Shoestring Budget" book, I have moved from internet newbie to blogger, and have seen our internet medical referrals up over 20%.

Chapter 2 - "Gaining Exposure for Your Business" led to me starting a blog three days a week and have produced nearly 200 medical blogs with no outlay of expenditures except my time.

Chapter 8: "Obtaining Amazing Free Publicity" led to us posting on LinkedIn 3 times a week for free allowing us to expand out client base nationally and internationally. Our blogs are then being reposted by readers for free on Facebook, Google etc..

A book every entrepreneur should read!

Debra Jason is an impressive educator and entrepreneur. I met Debra through mutual colleagues and could tell right away she was a woman who knew what she was talking about. Watching her give presentations inspires me to be greater, and reading her content gives me the specific action steps to do so. When her latest book, Millionaire on a Shoestring Budget, came out, I immediately wanted to get a copy and help her promote it. But nothing could prepare me for what I would feel once her book arrived. First, the simple but incredibly awesome touch of her adding a gold shoestring inside the cover, to act as a bookmark, was so cool and so representative of the attention to detail Debra has with her work. Inside the book I was relieved and glad she not only taught exactly what to do, but offers exercises to do right on the spot so that as you read, you are making real progress in your business. Debra has built a really rewarding business herself, so if you're looking for guidance to grow your own, definitely read this book and get to know Debra on a personal level!

I am a solopreneur with minimal marketing experience and I love this book! It is practical, easy to read and written in such an accessible voice, I felt like the author was sitting with me coaching me one step at a time. I found I could go to the chapter I was called to from the contents to get needed tips, or read it right on through and I learned a lot both ways. I love Debra's tips starting with "Believe in yourself." Sometimes I forget that marketing, like anything starts from the inside out, the reminder makes marketing less intimidating. This book will be a reference I turn to regularly. I strongly recommend this book to people new to marketing as well as those who are more experienced but looking for reminders. It is a clear, easy to follow guide that you can tailor to your own needs through the exercises at the end of each chapter. I've seen Tommy Gibbs' workshops for auto dealers in the past and always found them helpful. Likewise I've found his books on techniques for selling useful. This book goes a step further with insights that can help anyone be a more productive leader/manager, no matter what your business is. Well written, and obviously Mr. Gibbs has a lot of experience on the subjects he covers. Highly recommended.

We usually do, but are execution is weak and Tommy give us the intestinal fortitude to see reality and make decisions. Very Helpful

This book was very helpful. Many details for a newbie but still a few things unclear for the non-technical person. There was quite a bit of information about WordPress which confused me a little about what to do if I don't use WordPress. I kind of had to read between the lines there. I am a true novice so this isn't meant to be a negative comment. There is just so much information that it's all difficult to connect. I still give this book 5 starts becauseit has helped me more than anything else I have read. The author did a great job of explaining most everything. Some things were probably thought to be "obvious" but to a newbie they aren't. I have not yet seen the videos which may answer my other questions. I kind of liken this subject to one just placing their hands on a keyboard at the computer for the first time - with a completely black screen - what do I do first and how do I do it? I hate to admit that I need so much clarity that I can't understand the basic information. For instance, the WordPress issue - Unless I just overlooked it there should be some sort of indication of how to use this information with other web hosts, even if it's just that you can. Understand, I am a true NEWBIE and I realize it's possible what I'm saying doesn't even make sense. But, the main thing is that I still had questions when I finished the book. I am sure that is very normal. Having said all that - I like the author's writing style and the way it flowed. It made more sense to me than anything else I have read. I'm asking the author to write another book with more details for those of us who don't understand it all.Or, is that even possible?

Before you spend money on this book...read this

I hate to say it, but this book is pretty terrible. Whether you're brand new to Amazon or not, there's no excuse for a published book that you're paying this much for to have the amount of grammar and spelling mistakes. There's even about a half dozen places where an editor went in and put a strike-through to make a correction...and they published it that way.

It was definitely either written or edited by somebody who isn't a native English speaker, which makes it even harder to take seriously.

Anyway, looking past that, the content of the book was disappointing. Where are the 'secrets' and 'great tips' that were promised?

In all honestly, this book is just a jumbled up mess of rewritten guides for setting up your listings that Amazon gives you anyway. I'm disappointed because I was truly looking for some good info from this and read every page. Don't waste your time on it.
