About the Author
Peggy Salvatore has written many training programs in healthcare as well as on general business topics. Her background includes extensive research, analysis and writing for professional journal articles, white papers and executive background briefings on a broad range of health policy issues. She was a political reporter and columnist and covered the 1988 Republican National Convention before leaving daily journalism for business. She holds an MBA with a concentration in strategy and economics. Peggy is the mother of three wonderfully grown children and lives midway between Philadelphia and New York City.

I highly recommend this book. If you work on assignments or projects where you need to tap the knowledge of others, understand the details of what others do, and arrange the results of your interviews, content, or information into a presentation or report about those results, this book is for you. Although the book is written from the perspective of an instructional designer (ID) working with subject matter experts (SMEs) the insights conveyed by the author apply to many other professions and roles. It may be short in length but it has more usable material than many books three times its size. As both a SME and a consultant whose job is to gather information from and understand other SMEs when working on complex projects I found it to be a great resource. I can definitely use the vast majority of the author’s advice and recommendations on upcoming projects and assignments. In many professions and roles we can benefit from:
A framework for collecting and reviewing content
Understanding the three different types of SMEs (Unconscious Incompetent, Conscious Incompetent, Conscious Competent, and Unconscious Competent) and how to work with each of them
Finding that we can work within existing methods to take into account current best practices
