About the Author
Prof. Dr. Oliver Gassmann is professor of Technology Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and Managing Director of the organisation. He is ranked one of the 5 top-most cited professors by the German Academic Association for Business Research and is one of the most influential economists in Germany, as well as one of IAMOT’s top 45 researchers worldwide.
Dr. Karolin Frankenberger is an assistant professor at the Institute of Technology Management, University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. Before joining the institute, she was a consultant at McKinsey & Company for several years, helping various clients in topics such as business model innovation and strategic change.
Michaela Csik works as an Innovation Manager at Hocim Technology Ltd, Switzerland. Previously, she was a Senior Consultant at the BMI-lab as well as a Research Associate at the Institute of Technology Management and at the Center for Design Research at Stanford University.

Still useful, but sort of overpromises

Some highlighted "business models" seem to me more "marketing tactics" or "channels" than anything else. Most businesses I can think of use multiple "business models" as defined in the book. Still useful, but sort of overpromises.

Another great scientific discovery of a non scientific subject.

The crux of the book is a list of 55 business models that the authors say, through creative recombination, will help you innovate your current business model through the four dimensions (who, what, how, why) that describe all business models. Also, business model innovation results in a greater potential for success than product or process innovation because at least two of the four dimensions are tweaked while product or process innovation only tweak one. Also, product and process innovation won't decide a company's success or failure in the future.
Is it all true? I don't know. Let's here from somebody who successfully innovated their new business model based on this book.
In my opinion, the book is just one resource for a list of business models that one could use to become more familiar with business models. I don't think I would stop here. Worth half the price ($10).

A game changer!

When we first saw the youtube clip (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4ZSGQW0UMI) we really liked the simpleness of the Business Model Navigator and we started to look more into the the methodology. The book gives so much more depth and we now use the model to help our clients to optimize their business model. In the same way as "From good to great" the methodology relies on empirical studies, which makes it relevant and reliable. It's a game changer.
