La Vegas author Joseph G. Lecak earned his MBA from California State University and has spent more than thirty-five years of managerial experience with Continental Plastic Containers, Kerr Glass, McCormick and Co., and American Kiosk Management. With the experience he has gained in working for major companies, and also enduring a major physical setback in his health that encouraged him to re-evaluate priorities, he developed a passion for mentoring, and he takes great pride in having made a positive difference in the lives of his colleagues and employees who have worked both with him and for him.
In one of the most logical, `should be common sense' books encountered, Joseph addresses the concept of how to make more money in the work in which you enjoy. `I came to the realization that raises and promotions were a part of a process that could be actively manage by an employee. Employees who were willing to follow the path I had laid out found that they could dramatically increase their chances of receiving above-average raises along with increasing their prospects for promotion.' And so this book was born. Between the covers of this short but invaluable book are bits of advice about how to present yourself to interviewing companies, how to be attentive to `perfection' by being careful with everything you do or say. How to address raise requests by thinking ahead of your boss and presenting the added value of having you as an employee and thus an added value to the company, test your ideas on a small scale before progressing to major changes, how to negotiate deadlines and goals realistically, align with a mentor, `toot your own horn', be punctual, become invaluable, seek perfection in small bites, etc. So many clues that will add to your income (he gives a very interesting and valuable way of how to pace the annual percentage raise situation) are shared by a man who obviously knows his success.

Fantastic, Common Sense, Back to Basics Read on Navigating Corporate America.

I was hooked on this book as soon as I read "I do not share the views of the doomsayers who feel that the American economy can no longer produce good, solid, middle-class jobs that pay a livable wage." What a breath of fresh air! This book is a no-nonsense, common sense approach to navigating a career in corporate America. While it is no nonsense, the author also keeps the writing upbeat and draws the reader in by sharing his own personal anecdotes and experiences. This was a book I couldn't put down. I would recommend this book whether you are on day 2 of your corporate ladder climb or year 20! I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
