FINALLY, A SYSTEM THAT WORKS

I am a believer! Ms Silver has put it all together for those of us that have limited ad dollars and not knowing where, or how to spend them. I didn't even wait to finish reading Juice Your Boost before starting to apply it. I have had an amazing jump in sales and 'Reach" I recommend Juice Yout Boost to every author / artist/ actors/ musicians that depend on generating sales and additional reach.

Loved this! So very clever. I've never really understood facebook marketing - but Ms Silver does. She talks about targeting, reach and how to really fine tine each ad so that you get BANG for your BUCK. The system delivers. Money very well spent in my opinion :)

Passion Is Always In Fashion

A cathartic expose of lessons learned and what is important in being a respected leader in any industry not just fashion. Apart form the pantheon of business management books, this book sinks in because its voice is that of a friend sharing his disappointments, loss of self confidence and redemption. It teaches the importance of encouraging creativity, judging one's work, making money for the company, and keeping the energy level up in any organization.

This is one of those books that one feared would be yet another relatively boring “how I made my way in business” boasting-type things that you just can’t wait to put down and move past. That would have been a big mistake!

This is a surprisingly ego-light book that takes the reader on the author’s whirlwind journey from a being a new-beginner to one of the top movers and shakers within the global fashion and luxury goods business. Along the way, the author gives freely his self-analysis and advice for success, showing how relatively humble, unassuming yet focussed actions can reap great rewards.

It is really one of the most open business success books of its kind that this reviewer has seen. It is not a cliché to say that it was hard to put down. The book is more than just a guide to helping someone along in the fashion business. So much can be taken out and used in any business sector. You just need to think, rationalise and implement.

It is just no-nonsense advice that fortunately most people ignore, preferring to over-complicate for some reason. Let their mistakes be your saviour.

“When you get your foot in a company's door, you have to show your boss and the people around you that you're the go-to person, that no task is too big or too small. They need to know that whatever area or job you're involved in, no matter how big the challenge is, you will be willing to tackle it and get it done. Even if you don't know how to do the particular assignment or task or responsibility that's handed to you, you have to be seen as someone who is smart enough to figure out who to talk to and find someone who can help you. It's extremely important to be seen as one of those people management can rely on to get the job done. Go out of your way to meet people and ask all of them what they do. Ask if you can you sit in on meetings. Ask people if there is there something you can help with if you have some time,” is one such example of the author’s clear focus.

It is not rocket-science either. Yet it is uncommonly applied within business. Some of the advice could be described as old-fashioned, basic manners too: and there is nothing wrong with that.

“Put yourself out there and be happy to meet anyone who wants to introduce himself to you. Shake hands and be friendly, because you never know where that handshake can lead” is something that should be taught at schools.

Sadly the author also notes the insularity of many senior managers and their advisers who can’t comprehend that people might make career changes and would accept “lesser” positions without wanting to use it as an interim stepping-stone. A lot of great talent can be lost with such an attitude (as this reviewer also knows from personal experience).

“Sometimes it's even about the job title. I know many people who were president of their former companies who can't get an interview for a senior vice president position at another company because the hiring manager doesn't believe they will ever be satisfied with the lesser job title. Sometimes a president's title is just that: a title. Sometimes it's not what you would consider a president. An example might be a head of sales who is called the president. Thus, titles can be a problem. Often entrepreneurs will not be hired by major public companies because they think an entrepreneur's spirit won't work well in a corporate environment. It's very difficult to overcome these types of problems,” wrote the author.

There’s not much more to say. A small review cannot do this book justice. It was an exceptionally pleasant, surprising find. Ignore this at your own risk.

Mark Weber writes with such energy and enthusiasm that I just had to read on. Chapter titles tell all: Work is Work If It's Work, Once in My Life I Was Brilliant, My Favorite Word Is "No", "Don't Forget to Thank People Who Help You" and more. His work is work done well; he knows his product, his market, his company, his team and his network. His lessons are practical reminders of what you may have forgotten along the way. I like his acknowledgements, especially to his assistant! This book is not only about the business of fashion but about business everywhere. The chapter highlights in boxed summaries allow you to skim for specifics, however, you won't be able to resist reading more, once you start. Very helpful anywhere in your career journey!

About the Author
     
     Edgar Stoesz has spent most of his adult life in nonprofit organizations, both as director and employee. He was a staff member of Mennonite Central Committee for 33 years, seven of those as Associate Executive Secretary. He served as President-CEO of Mennonite Indemnity for 34 years. Stoesz spent six years on the board of Habitat for Humanity International, four of those years as Chair. And while in that position, he worked closely with former President Jimmy Carter. He is currently First Vice President of Hospital Albert Schweitzer (Haiti). Presently he also chairs the board of the American Leprosy mission. In his administrative responsibilities, he has visited more than 50 countries. He has contributed articles to many publications and addressed audiences on a variety of subjects related to his service. He is the author of Doing Good Better and Common Sense for Board Members, and the editor of Meditations for Meetings, all published by Good Books.

Very practical and helpful

I found this book to be extremely practical and helpful, and I bought extra copies for other members of our board's executive committee. Our board meetings in the past have been long and unfocused, and we have many folks that are new to board service. This book provided practical resources to help us understand our role, how our meetings should be conducted, and how we should work with and support the staff. I really appreciated the templates provided for board orientation and annual review of the executive director.

There is an incredible amount of practical, essential information in this book for anyone serving on a non-profit board. Whether you're new to the position, entrenched and trying to figure out how to contribute more effectively, or on your way out and looking for resources on how to transition gracefully - you need to read this book!

Written in a friendly, professional tone that doesn't glorify the author but in a way that lets you know he has tons of hands-on experience with the material, this is an easy read. At the same time, you'll want to read it more than once and probably with a highlighter in hand.

This book is a fantastic primer for those considering non-profit board service or even for those who have served on numerous board. Stoesz has had a wide experience in boardmanship. He has taken the best of his experience and put it concisely in a handbook for board members. John Carver, the guru on boards, once said, "the one thing all boards have in common is that they do not function". This book will help any board member function as part of a board team and help the board succeed, which in turn helps the non-profit succeed. It would be the best $10 investment any board member could make. This book gives the tools to take a non-profit board to the next level.

Tamara Pinkas is a faculty member in the Cooperative Education Division at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, where she has helped thousands of people find jobs since 1986. Tamara is a national advocate for cooperative education through her membership in the Cooperative Education and Internship Association and the League for Innovation in the Community College.
Scott Weighart is the Director of Learning & Development for Bates Communications, a firm specializing in executive coaching and leadership communications. For over a decade, he worked with cooperative education students at Northeastern University and earned international recognition for books, articles, and workshops.

Useful for beginners!

Useful for beginners to get started on cratfing their own titles.

I'd give it a higher rating if the book contains a section on power words for different categories and genres of books. Another section that gives examples of good and powerful titles for different genres of books would be most helpful as well. And if the author can also do a couple of case studies on the titles of bestselling books, even the pros will find it useful.

Lastly, i noticed this is seems to be for non fiction self help books...what about non fiction books that are not self help books and fiction books?

This would be a very powerful book if the author can include my suggestions...

A catchy title is the most part of the book and most writers have problems crafting a good title. Louis shows us the various ways to write a title with some examples. A quick read. The tips will get you out of the rut in no time. If you are clueless about writing magnetic titles, this is the book for you. For less than the price of a cup of coffee, this is no-brainer.

The book is straight to the point and serves as a very useful checklist for me. There are many examples given and I like to refer to them whenever I face a writer's block. I use this book to guide me in crafting blog titles as well. Just wished there was a summarized checklist towards the end but for now, I can use the table of contents for that.

Stand out from the job seeker crowd after you apply this book's method!

Charles Woolsey has written a practical guide for today's job searcher. It reminds me of Michael Hyatt's book Platform because it is all about how to stand out from the crowd of job seekers! While I think that it will be difficult for some to be bold enough to take the plunge and apply his method and wisdom, there is no doubt in my mind that it will get results!

His challenge to job searchers is clear and is a good mix of tried and true actions with a strong dose of new out-of-the-box thinking. This is where it shines. By creating a platform and network using Woolsey's methods, job seekers will definitely learn how to get above the hoards of job seekers and make direct connection with decision makers.

This is an easy read and has some great ideas. As a career coach, former headhunter and hiring manager I see the wisdom and creativity of this method as being a great addition to a job seeker's toolkit! I highly recommend it. I only wish I'd thought of this approach earlier so I could have used it and written such a fine book!

A Fresh Insight Into The Financial Markets

Daniel Lacalle shares some great analysis and insights about financial markets, especially hedge funds. He's very candid and straightforward and he debunks several common myths and prevailing wisdom. He covers a very broad set of topics, including sovereign debt and the recent financial crisis with a very critical but sound and intelligent analysis. Highly recommended.

A HIGHLY READABLE RECENT HISTORY RICH IN THEORY AND PRACTICAL ADVICE

The financial markets affect us all, whether we like it or not, and following the spectacular events of 2008 we would do well to better understand them. Thus Daniel Lacalle provides a great service with this excellent, highly readable book. Beginning with his entry into the world of finance in the mid-2000s, he uses personal experience to take us through the global financial crisis, its causes and consequences, and the important lessons it provides. Moreover, he grounds his analysis on a strong theoretical framework, based on the key tenets of the Austrian Economic School, the only school of economics that has a comprehensive explanation for financial crises in general. However, the book also contains much practical advice for how to evaluate sovereign and corporate credit quality, equity markets, hedge funds and other investments. I highly recommend it.

This book is a fast read if one has any basic knowledge of real economics and markets. Unfortunately, in that case you won't learn much you don't know already as the author seems to be an Austrian newbie with rudimentary knowledge of the School. Despite this, he deserves colossal credit for being intellectually curious (and brave) enough to study and apply these wonderful ideas to the past, present and future economic / political milieu.
I kept forcing myself in vain through the pages of a nearly unreadable combination of incomplete and run on sentences hopping to glean any new wisdom that might make me a better investor. The book provides very little specific investment guidance. It does provide a little insight into the financial and political environment in the Eurozone from a european's perspective which was somewhat interesting.
